Coal tar CT has been used for many years as a topical preparation in the treatment of psoriasis. However, in recent years the use of CT has been discouraged because it contains possible carcinogens. I will look at the evidence and consider whether CT is as an effective psoriasis cure and whether it’s a safe treatment option.

Firstly, let’s look at what CT is and how it is derived. CT is a by-product of the coal industry and is a thick brown or black liquid that is used to tarmac roads. However, the chemicals contained in CT were found to be effective in treating psoriasis over 150 years ago, both on its own and mixed with other ingredients. Even though it is not fully understood how it works as a therapeutic treatment, it’s thought to reduce inflammation and the turn-over of skin cells.

CT preparations are found in many over-the-counter and prescription-only creams, lotions, ointments, bath oils and shampoos and are usually not harmful. However, some people have experienced minor skin irritations and more seriously an allergic reaction such as hives, swelling, stinging and burning. CT can also discolor fair skin and hair as well stain clothes and other fabrics. It’s always wise to wear your oldest clothes and use old bedding when you first start using these products in case they stain. Very few people seem to experience any serious side effects.

At first crude CT was used in a 1 to 10% concentration in soft paraffin to treat psoriasis. However, it is less commonly used these days because it is extremely smelly and messy to use and few people can put up with it. These days, however, the creams containing between 0.4 – 2% concentrations are more pleasant and easier to use at home. However, two studies have shown that a 1% concentration used twice daily has significantly less therapeutic effect than a 5% concentration. The studies concluded that there were no benefits in exceeding a 5% CT concentration.

Preparations like Psorin ointment which contains dithranol, salicyclic acid and 1% CT are commonly prescribed for treating psoriasis because the active ingredients slow down the process of skin cell production and shedding old skin cells. They also reduce inflammation.

A recent study compared the efficacy of a new CT preparation called exorex (containing 1% concentration) with calcipotriol cream (containing Vitamin D), and found that even though exorex was as effective as calcipotriol, people could tolerate calcipotriol better. However, the study concluded that CT preparations are considerably less expensive than taking calcipotriol and are a useful and effective topical medication for chronic psoriasis.

Even though it has been found that using 5% CT concentration is more effective than a 1% concentration, the World Health Organization’s International Cancer Research Agency has classified 5% or greater concentration as a carcinogen. Some studies have shown that using very high concentrations may cause cancer and, consequently, doctors and dermatologists are concerned about any use of coal tar products. Californian law regards even a 0.5% concentration dangerous, whilst the FDA still maintains that using 0.5% to 5% preparations is safe.

So, with this confusing information, the question that remains is whether coal tar products cause cancer? In the 1950s 280 patients were treated with crude coal tar and UV lights (known as the Goeckerman regimen). Following up 25 years later, they found that the incidence of skin cancer had not increased above the expected incidence of the general population. They concluded that there was a minimal risk for skin cancer using coal tar preparations.

Despite the cautiousness of the medical profession, there is no firm evidence that using over-the-counter coal tar preparations causes skin cancer or other cancers. In the end, it seems that it is still an effective and safe psoriasis cure.

If you are still concerned about using coal tar products, there are other methods of psoriasis cure You can read about the best psoriasis cream at my Clear Skin Guide website.

A study in the British Journal of Dermatology found that there was a marked zinc deficiency in many of their patients with psoriasis. Zinc is important for its antioxidant benefits which are critical for good skin health. I’m going to look at why zinc is good for your skin and what steps you can take if you think you have a zinc deficiency.

As mentioned, zinc is critical for good skin health because of its antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are extremely important in protecting the body against free radicals, tiny chemical particles that turn food into energy. However, when these free radicals get out of control, they can attack the body, damage our cells and possibly cause premature ageing, heart disease and skin diseases. Consequently, it is important to have a diet rich in antioxidant vitamins and minerals such as vitamins A,C, E and zinc in order to keep the free radicals under control.

How do you become zinc deficient?
Zinc deficiency seems to be an affliction of modern times when our diet and lifestyles have changed dramatically. Unfortunately, lower levels of zinc are now found in the soil which lowers the levels in our food. Our highly processed, refined foods and our over-consumption of sugar and carbohydrates all contribute to the decreasing levels of zinc in our diet. Vegetarians, especially, can be at risk of zinc deficiency because the main source of zinc is meat. Our levels of zinc can be depleted not only by diet but also by increased stress levels.

How do you know when you have a zinc deficiency?
The signs of zinc deficiency vary from person to person. However, there are a few common symptoms to look out for. These include dandruff, poor wound healing, sleep disturbances, diarrhea, hair loss, loss of libido, skin dryness, rashes and reduced fertility. If you suffer with psoriasis and complain of any of the other suspected symptoms, then you could be suffering from a zinc deficiency. To find out whether you are zinc deficient or not, it is important to consult your doctor or nutritionist.

What research has been done on zinc?
A recent study showed that using zinc sulphate cream was effective in treating psoriasis and induced a complete remission in a high percentage of cases. Another study showed that topical zinc pyrithione (an active ingredient in major anti-dandruff shampoos) was highly effective in the treatment of psoriasis. Even though there has not been a huge amount of research, the completed studies have concluded that zinc can help psoriasis.

How do you treat a zinc deficiency?
First of all, are you eating a diet high in sugar and refined carbohydrates such as white rice, pasta, bread, cakes and cookies? If the answer is yes, then you need to think about alternative options such as wholemeal bread, brown rice and avoiding sugary foods. Great sources of zinc are oysters, pork, chicken, beef, lamb, chickpeas, baked beans, pumpkin seeds and cheese. Unfortunately, even if you take a high level of zinc, only a small percentage actually gets absorbed by your body, especially from non-meat sources. If you suffer with psoriasis and especially if you are a vegetarian, then it would be worth taking a zinc supplement.

Treating psoriasis with zinc
Apart from changing your diet and adding supplements, there are other ways of taking zinc to treat your psoriasis. One way is to use creams containing zinc, for example DermaZinc Cream. DermaZinc is effective in treating the red, flaky, itchy and scaly skin associated with mild to moderate psoriasis. Another product that has been clinically proven and FDA approved is the Skin Zinc system which consists of a cream and a spray.

The good news is that if you think that a zinc deficiency may be the cause of your psoriasis, there is something you can do about it: improve your diet, reduce stress, take supplements and use creams containing zinc.

You should remember that zinc deficiency is only one possible cause of psoriasis and there are many other triggers. But I have suffered from both psoriatic arthritis and scalp psoriasis. In fact, I have been afflicted with scalp psoriasis on and off for 40 years. Thankfully, I have only had one bout of psoriatic arthritis during an extremely stressful time in my life. No doctors were able to diagnose my psoriatic arthritis because it is very similar to rheumatoid arthritis but not as well known or understood. Thanks to some ancient herbs and a tonic from Australia, I am now essentially symptom-free from both diseases. Here is what I took to have healthy skin and joints:

Salicylic acid and coal tar solution. Find a product that contains 10% salicylic acid and 10% coal tar solution in an olive oil base, which aids in scalp penetration. You may have tried products in the past that contain these ingredients, but most likely not in these high concentrations. Apply it to your scalp every night for two weeks. The one I used was David’s Scalp Psoriasis Lotion which I purchased online from hoskingspharmacy.com. Or you may be able to have a dermatologist prescribe these solutions for a compounding pharmacy to make for you. I probably had one of the worst possible cases of scalp psoriasis, but since I used this product seven months ago, I have been 99% plaque free. It is recommended that you maintain your clear scalp with a shampoo like Neutrogena T-Gel twice a week and apply David’s Scalp Psoriasis Lotion only to plaques, if needed. I still do get tiny plaques from time to time but two or three treatments with the lotion are enough to make them disappear.

Boswellia, cayenne pepper, devil’s claw, and chlorophyll. Boswellia is an herb used in Ayurveda for arthritis and as an anti-inflammatory agent. Cayenne pepper is used to improve blood circulation. For thousands of years, devil’s claw has been used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Chlorophyll is used to fight infections, heal wounds, and promote the health of the immune system. When treating any disease, you should keep in mind the broad variations among individuals; not all treatments work for all people. I read about this treatment combination for psoriatic arthritis in one of nutritionist Gary Null’s books and it completely eradicated my arthritis and joint swelling within one week. I had suffered from psoriatic arthritis for about four months.

No one knows exactly what causes psoriasis, but we do know the predisposition for psoriasis is usually passed on genetically. It has been said that it is the body’s way to release stress and/or negative emotions. If you want to release psoriasis from your body, find a way to relax. And take these herbs and medications. They don’t have any known side effects, unlike the Western pharmaceuticals that are normally prescribed for psoriasis such as cortisone drugs.

Do you know psoriasis is a chronic skin disease that affects over 50 million people worldwide? While the condition is non-contagious, the scaling skin can however cause extreme discomfort to an individual who suffer from it.

Currently, there are no “permanent” cures for psoriasis but there are many treatments and remedies available that can help treat the condition. Some of these traditional medical treatment options involve antibiotics and topical creams to slow skin cell growth and eliminate scaling. However, if you are worried about potential side effects that drugs may have, there are also some other natural cures for psoriasis that can be used to help get rid of psoriasis naturally.

Some of the more popular home remedies and natural cures for psoriasis include:

Bathing in lukewarm water filled with Dead Sea or Epsom salts. The salts help draw toxins out of the body, reduce inflammation and relieve itchiness of the affected areas.
Spending 10 to 15 minutes under the sun to give your skin some exposure to natural sunlight which stimulates vitamin D production to help get rid of psoriasis lesions.
Applying aloe vera gel or olive oil to the affected areas can help reduce the symptoms of scaly skin and keep the skin lubricated to soothe away the itchiness.
Consuming natural herbal remedies such as milk thistle, oregano oil, evening primrose oil and turmeric. These remedies has shown to aid in healing the symptoms of psoriasis.

The above are some of the many natural cures for psoriasis. However keep in mind that the effectiveness of natural remedies and cures will vary depending on the severity and type of psoriasis.

The only way to really know which natural remedies for psoriasis is going to work best for you is to try each cures and monitor your results.

Vinegar dip- As aloe; apple cider vinegar contains a disinfectant and anti-inflammatory properties. It can be used to calm slight burns and to treat the psoriasis. To make an apple cider vinegar squeeze, put in 1 cup apple cider vinegar to 1 gallon water. Steep a washcloth in the solution and use it to the affected areas to relieve itching.

Epsom salts – Another home remedy for psoriasis is Epsom salts. Put a handful of Epsom salt to your bath. It will help you to keep swelling down and curing your psoriasis.

Baking soda – In order to remove the itch from your flaking patches, add half cup baking soda into 1 gallon water. Use it to your scaly patches with a washcloth steeped in the solution.

Mineral oil – Mineral oil is also a good home remedy for psoriasis. It acts as a skin soother. Mix a little amount to your bath and immerse your sore skin.

Vegetable oil – In order to ease your psoriasis add one cup of vegetable oil to your bathwater.

Olive oil – Take a cup of milk and mix 1 teaspoon olive oil and add the solution to your bathtub. Or to treat scalp psoriasis, massage with warm olive oil.

There are several Psoriasis treatments which can diminish the severity of psoriasis but today people are wishing to adopt natural cures because they believe that there may be side effects from other psoriasis treatments.

A few natural cures for Psoriasis:

Oregano herb is a verified way to ease your itchiness. The oil extracted from this herb is known to be an excellent way to curing psoriasis. The oregano oil includes antibacterial and anti fungal properties in it that will decrease the psoriasis infection. Similar to oregano, another essential component that has proven to be a good antiseptic is Turmeric. A turmeric powder paste is made and applied in the inflamed areas. Turmeric heals any wound quicker than any other antiseptic.

Milk thistle is an additional way to curing psoriasis that can diminish the severity of psoriasis. Milk thistle decelerates the process of human T- cell which generally occurs in the Psoriasis disease. People who are taking any type of male hormones or antibiotics should not take milk thistle pills or liquid.

The other Psoriasis natural cure is usage of shark cartilages. The extract of shark cartilages helps to prevent the development of new blood vessels. If new blood vessels are developed, psoriasis will enhance. Shark cartilage contains Anti inflammatory properties. It can be taken as a food supplement in the form of tablets.

For curing psoriasis naturally, above natural methods should also supplement with balanced diet and proper vitamin intake.

Psoriasis can be on of the hardest skin conditions to have to deal with. It can be very embarrassing in public, and it can even greatly affect ones self esteem and confidence. So many people around the world have to deal with this condition on a daily basis. I am happy to assist anyone in getting rid of the effects of this dreadful condition.

If you have gone to the doctor about your psoriasis, I am sure you have been prescribed some creams, which can only help the problem to a certain extent. The problem is, the creams and other topical solutions do not address the core of the issue, which is internal. Instead of just masking the symptoms and reducing the swelling, you should be making changes to your diet and doing the things necessary to fix the problem that is causing the psoriasis.

One natural treatment that has been particularly successful is the omega-3 fatty acids. There has even been trials done to show the effectiveness of the fatty acids on patients that were suffering from psoriasis. The patients were given two doses a day for two weeks, and more than a third showed drastic improvements in the condition of their skin, with the other 2/3’s experiencing benefits as well. This proves that omega-3 fish oil is an excellent natural treatment for psoriasis. There have been multiple studies similar to the one I just mentioned that also confirm these results are consistent. Aside from being good for your psoriasis it is also good for the heart as well, and it has anti-aging properties too! This is something that everyone should take, even if they are already healthy.

You should also try to eat fruits and vegetables with your omega fish oil supplement, as well as drinking lots of water.

If you are suffering from a mild case of psoriasis, then you are probably experiencing embarrassing scaly rashes. If you are afflicted with a more severe case of psoriasis, then the rashes will burn and itch so fiercely it would be almost impossible not to scratch it. If you let psoriasis go untreated, it may worsen, and if you scratch the rashes, then infection may set in and could cause sever repercussions.
So if you value your health or your appearance, then you should begin trying to cure it immediately, regardless of the severity of your case.

You may have been to the doctor and been diagnosed with psoriasis, at which time you were prescribed a medication to help you with the disorder. There are various medications that are intended to treat psoriasis but there is no set cure to the problem. All treatments for psoriasis simply temporarily disable the immune dysfunction, thereby masking the resulting symptoms.

While there is no set cure for psoriasis, you may be able to reduce the rashes by 95% even in severe cases. You should consider using natural methods first, simply because they do not come with any negative side effects like the prescription medication does. At least if a natural method doesn’t work for you, you don’t have to worry about any negative side effects that could possibly be worse than the psoriasis itself.

Some of the home remedies that are effective in combating psoriasis include salt baths, moisturizing lotions such as aloe vera that keep the skin from drying out, apple cider vinegar to balance the PH, using vitamin E and zinc topically on the affected areas, and even natural sun lights can help your skin by giving it vitamin D.

If you have been diagnosed with psoriasis, then you should definitely consider trying some natural methods to heal the condition.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease which affects the skin and joints. If you have psoriasis then you are probably looking for an answer to your problems, as it is not a condition that one would enjoy having. You have probably been to the doctor and have been prescribed some medicines, only to find out they do not work for you like you suspected they would. There are however some more natural methods that can help you get rid of psoriasis.

Dead Sea Salts are a good way to decrease the effectiveness of psoriasis by limiting the disease ability to spread. Dead Sea Salts have been used to cure infection for a very long time.

Making adjustments to your diet will help your psoriasis as well. Your immune system needs nutrients to function properly, as does the rest of your body. If you are not getting the proper nutrients, your immune system will suffer, and this is obviously not good if you are suffering from an autoimmune disease.

Water Therapy is a good therapy for psoriasis because you can mix the dead sea salts with the water and soak your body in it, to help all of your skin fight the infections caused by the psoriasis.

Many people believe homeopathy is the best natural cure for psoriasis because it stops the problem at the root by strengthening and fortifying the immune system. Homeopathy has shown many people good results.

Vitamins and herbs are also an excellent way to boost your immune system because they balance your bodies chemicals and make sure everything is in working order. Vitamins and herbs should be taken daily regardless of whether or not you suffer from psoriasis, because they provide so many benefits to the body.

One thing you will definitely need when trying to cure is psoriasis is a positive attitude. Just like with all of life’s other tasks, it will require some willpower and some determination. Without a positive outlook on the situation it is not likely you will be able to cope with this disease.

A non-contagious skin disease, resulting in flaky, itchy and swollen skin, Psoriasis is a very prevalent affliction. It can happen for various reasons. It can be hereditary, life-style based, or simply from something that makes the immune system over-active and therefore increases the growth of skin cells. Depending upon the severity and affected area, different types of psoriasis cures can be taken into consideration for relief. Apparently, there is no magic cure and one needs to consult their doctor and discover the psoriasis cure that works.

There are various cures that have been effective for different patients. The challenge however remains to find the cure that works best, that is, benefits fast and has minimal side effects. Some key psoriasis cures are Topical cure, Systemic cure, Phototherapy cure, and Sun/Water therapy.

Topical cures involve applying solution or cream to the affected area. If the severity of affected area is mild then one can buy over-the-counter ointments to treat the skin condition. The medicines come with steroids as well as components that reduce itching, scaling and inflammation. Coal tar, Salicylic acid, calcipotriene, and vitamin D3 are key ingredients in topical medicines. The famous prescribed psoriasis cure medicinesare Anthralin, Dovonex, Taclonex, Tazorac and Corticosteroids.

Systemic psoriasis cures are for patients showing moderate to severe psoriasis condition. Unlike general medicines, systemics are generated from living proteins and are not chemically made. This is a new area in psoriasis that has evoked considerable success and interest. However, the long term side-effects are not completely known. But it is known that these cures impact the whole body and not just the affected area. Recently, US FDA approved some systemic psoriasis cures like Amevive, Remicade, Enbrel, and couple others.

Psoriasis cures like phototherapy involve exposing skin to UV rays. This has to be done under medical supervision or at a place where you have the kit to do it. Phototherapy can treat chronic plaque lesions, clear psoriasis (when used along with psoralen) and also slows abnormal rapid growth of skin cells. UVB (Ultraviolet light B) treatment involves exposing broad-band or narrow-band UV light B to affected areas. Lasers are recommended for patients having less than 10% of their body covered by psoriasis. Side effects of these psoriasis cures include small risk of scarring. PUVA combines psoralen with UV light A and clear psoriasis for most of the patients.

Natural therapies like sun and water therapy can be really effective psoriasis cures. While water helps chronic lesions to soften up; sun therapy when consistently performed can clean up psoriasis. Balneotherapy involves thermal spring treatments, mineral water or seawater treatment is extensively promoted in European spa’s. Climatotherapy combines light and water for its treatment and refers specifically to few areas for treatment like the Dead Sea in Israel.

Psoriasis cures also involve simple therapies like diet control or following a special diet. Other ancient region-specific treatments have increasingly evoked interest in recent times. For example, Ayurveda, Acupuncture and Chinese medication have become immensely popular for their natural healing powers.

If you have a mild case of psoriasis, it can be unsightly and embarrassing. If you have a more severe case, you may also have itching and burning sensations and quite a bit of discomfort. Whether your case is mild, severe, or somewhere in between, you’re probably on the lookout for natural cures for psoriasis that can relieve your symptoms.

Traditional psoriasis treatments include steroid creams like Betnovate and Locoid and in more extreme cases doctors may use cytotoxic drugs. If you’re worried about the potential side effects that drugs may have been you would probably want to try herbal remedies and natural cures for psoriasis.

Keep in mind that there is no “cure” for psoriasis. There is no pill you can take or treatment you can get that will make it go away and never come back. There are however natural remedies that can effectively treat the symptoms without the risk of harsh side effects.

Some of the more popular natural treatments and home remedies include bathing in Epsom salts, using aloe vera to keep skin lubricated and hydrated, treating the affected area with apple cider vinegar to help balance pH levels, treating affected areas with zinc and vitamin E, and even exposure to natural sunlight which stimulates vitamin D production can be helpful.

There are a number of different treatment options available to help relieve your psoriasis symptoms ranging from prescription medication to simple home remedies. The only way to really know what is going to work best for you is to try a treatment option and monitor your results. You should consult a dermatologist before attempting to diagnose and /or treat any kind of skin disorder.

This condition causes not only physical discomfort, but stressful burdens, as well. But now, those who have this disease can rest easier knowing that there are treatments that can help with the symptoms of the disease. The latest treatment of psoriasis is something many sufferers seek, and perhaps these new options can give that bright beacon of hope to hurting people. Even though there is no cure for psoriasis right now, at least there are these treatments.

Again, anyone who is dealing with psoriasis deals with flaking, scaling, and itching – along with irritation of the scalp and the possibility of breakouts anywhere on the body. There has been renewed hope for people who have this affliction thanks to the latest treatment of psoriasis. These treatments can be the difference between optimistic days and restless nights, for some individuals. This is good news for perhaps millions of people.

So let’s look at some of the latest treatment of psoriasis. People can take liquid mediations such as one called Psoriasin. Psoriasin has five formulas which are recognized medically, and help relieve psoriasis symptoms. There is also the option of using a topical cream. One such cream is Dermarest; it has several conditioners which control and reduce itching, scaling and flaking from psoriasis – and also soothe your scalp and moisturize it. There is also a foam treatment known as Connetics Olux Foam, which contains a steroid for the purpose of taking care of psoriasis symptoms.

Some more of the latest treatment of psoriasis involves the use of things such as light therapy – which is supposed to make use of sunlight and other forms of light to assist in alleviating psoriasis symptoms. Then, there’s a practice that draws much controversy: meditation. This holistic approach to seeking psoriasis treatment is criticized as being ineffective; surely some mystical approach to healing the body is something we don’t partake in, right?? Well, countless people partake in what they believe to be the power of prayer, which is one form of meditation involving spiritual connection. Whether prayer, Eastern meditation, or simple contemplation, meditation can alleviate stress throughout the mind and body – and this, in turn, can do a lot to take care of the symptoms suffered by people with psoriasis. Those who wish to seek other methods may certainly try those methods and many are successful with creams and other medications. But for many, the idea of meditation is a positive one which can pay great dividends. Also, there is much to be said for herbal remedies in seeking the latest treatment of psoriasis.

It is fortunate that those suffering from psoriasis can find solace in the latest treatment of psoriasis. These new options are fantastic news for millions of people who need relief from the constant, daily symptoms of the psoriasis from which they suffer. Hope is now indeed on the horizon for so many people.
